Equality and Diversity

The Police Federation of England and Wales is fully committed to the elimination of unfair discrimination on the grounds of gender, family status, age, race, ethnic origin, sexual orientation, religion, disabled status or any other justified condition, and the promotion of Equality and Diversity for all within the Service. It commits to this belief both within its own practices and arrangements and throughout the Police Service of England and Wales.

Equality and Diversity is about treating everyone, both inside and outside the service, with dignity and respect. It is about welcoming diversity and recognising that each person has to balance personal and professional needs and that sometimes they will need special arrangements in order to fulfil all their commitments.

“Special arrangements” does not mean that one person should be treated either better or worse than any other, it means recruiting, selecting, resourcing, deploying and treating others with the dignity and respect that we would expect for ourselves.

The Police Federation has been and will continue to be involved in the development of procedures and challenge unacceptable behaviour and seek to support diversity in the workplace.

Humberside Police Federation represents Police Officers in the organisation that all have different skills experience and attitudes. We recognise and celebrate the differences and these define the culture of the Service.

We are working with the Force to assist in the development of procedures that reinforce and support the ideals of all to be treated fairly, appropriately and without discrimination in the workplace.

We have a strong working relationship with the various Human Resources Departments in the Force and with other groups for example THE FORUM. This “joined up” approach helps all to share skills and knowledge and try and end inequality in all the fields of Diversity.

This is a dynamic area and the legalities are changing and we are awaiting the Equalities Bill and what impact that will mean to our members.

The Equality and Diversity team in Humberside Police Federation are committed to providing this service and we can be called upon to give advice, guidance and our Representatives receive training in this area.

We do not stand alone and we have the resources of the National Federation behind all the members so that a question can be posed by us to the centre at Leatherhead HQ.

Please contact a Representative if you have any issues and we will do our utmost to assist you.
