What We Do

The adjacent links will give you access to various pages relating to areas in which the Police Federation specialise.

All Representatives are trained to assist Federation members but there are a number of sub-committees made up of representatives specially trained in the areas concerned.

It must be said that all Police Officers from Constable to Chief Inspector are members of the Police Federation and are therefore entitled to advice from the Federation Representative however access to funding for specialist advice is limited to subscribing members only.

Clicking on any of the links will not only give you the specific information about that area and links to various information leaflets but will also inform you of the Federation representatives specifically trained to assist you.

Here are some of the things we do for you:

  • Provide free legal advice and assistance to members facing criminal proceedings for any offence, when on duty
  • Negotiate nationally on Police pay and Conditions
  • Provide welfare advice and help with personal issues
  • Offer legal assistance to members charged with an offence when driving on duty
  • Provide advice and representation at disciplinary hearings
  • Help with civil claims and Industrial Injury claims
  • Update police equipment and uniform
  • Give cover for personal public liability
  • Assist with Grievance procedures
  • Offer advice to anyone suffering sexual, racial or other discriminatory harassment
  • Maintain professional reputations during defamation proceedings to clear officers' names
  • Provide representation at Employment Tribunals
  • Offer financial advice and debt counselling
  • Give pensions advice, and
  • Improve training
