Get Moving to Lose Weight

Much more information here :
What is the number one key to losing weight?  For most people, the key is simply to get moving.  In America, our society is becoming more sedentary for a variety of reasons.  We have more demands on our time, and therefore we leave less time for ourselves, particularly time devoted to keeping shape.  In the case of our kids, they would rather sit in front of the TV playing video games, or in front of the computer chatting with friends on Facebook.

The simple fact of the matter is that we need to make that time.  Why?  As we get older, our metabolism slows and it becomes harder to lose weight just by watching what we eat.  Also, it is simply healthier to get moving more.

If you have not exercised much in your life, you obviously don’t want to jump right up and go jog five miles.  If you try, you probably won’t be able to get out of bed for a week!  Getting in shape is a process, but you have to start somewhere.

What are some easy ways to get moving?  Well, here you go…

Walk – This is the single easiest thing to do to get moving.  If you are significantly over weight, this is also pretty much where you have to start, because more difficult exercise may result in injury.  However, you should take every opportunity as possible to walk.  Walk the dog, walk around the block, walk to the grocery store, etc.

Climb the steps – If you work in an office building, start taking the steps instead of the elevator.  In fact, everywhere you go, if you have the choice between an elevator and stairs, take the stairs.  This is just one small lifestyle choice on your way to losing weight.

Take up a hobby that includes moving in some way shape or form.  If it is something like golf, be sure to walk at least half the time you are on the course.

Push-ups and sit-ups – These are the most basic exercises we learned as a kid.  Do a few in the morning after you wake up.  Do these consistently, and you will not only burn off a few extra calories to start your day, you’ll gain a little strength.

Take a hike – not only will hiking burn some calories, it will get you some much needed fresh air away from the city or suburbs where you may live.

Go for a swim – if you do know how to swim, swimming is one of the best exercises you can do.  Not only does it burn calories, it gives you a total-body work out and is not hard on the joints.

Jog – If you are able to jog, try to fit a jog into your schedule on a regular basis.  Even a jog of just 20 minutes can help you burn 200 calories or more.

Cut the grass-do yard work – yard work is a great way to get yourself moving.  It gets you out doors where you can get some needed fresh air, and it can burn a lot of calories in a couple hours worth of work.

Conclusions – The Key To Losing Weight

These are but a few ideas for you to get moving a bit more in your life.  The beauty of all of these ideas is that you can start out slow.  Nobody says you have to run a 4 minute mile or do 100 push ups.  But, as mentioned before, the key to losing weight is to get moving! You can start at your own pace, and gradually build up from there.  The bottom line though is that in order to get your weight under control, you have to get moving!
